What AIBI actually does

Association of Investment Bankers of India AIBI

SEBI-recognised standards body for investment (merchant) bankers

The Association of Investment Bankers of India (AIBI, formerly the Association of Merchant Bankers of India, AMBI) holds SEBI recognition recorded since the SEBI Annual Report 1997-98 'to set up professional standards... and establish standard practices in investment banking'. It is the investment-banking industry's sole representative body to SEBI, with 109 members on its own count.

Mandate & machinery

  • Professional standards and standard practices for merchant/investment banking activity.
  • Representation on SEBI's Primary Market Advisory Committee (via its Chairperson).
  • Annual summits with the SEBI Chairman as chief guest; seminars, panels, research initiatives and an e-magazine; due-diligence guidance material for members.

Membership

  • 109 members (aibi.org.in counter, 2026-09-26). Voluntary membership, but a valid SEBI merchant-banking licence is an eligibility requirement.
  • Life membership (Rs 5,00,000 + GST entrance) and associate membership tiers.

Gaps & open questions

  • No public member roster — member.asp is a join/download page, and the roster is available only on request.
  • No published enforcement, complaint or disciplinary record — standards exist as guidance, not as an enforced code with a dated trail.
